A HELPING HAND
Isn’t it good to hear a story that inspires us? In a world of mainly bad news there was something good that happened this week. It was about how triathlete Alistair Brownlee helped his brother, Jonny, over the finishing line of a race in Mexico. Alistair put the interests of his brother first, and arguably gave up his own chance of winning.
There are lessons in this for all of us. How far would we go to help someone else?
And, wouldn’t it be good if we had a friendly brother figure who helped us when we get weary? Actually, that is who Jesus is. He is the one who helps all of us out. It is Jesus who helps us get past, figuratively speaking, the finishing line of life. We might stumble and fall, we might get exhausted and feel that we can’t go on, but Jesus comes to our assistance. Jesus reaches down and picks us up and carries us on to victory.
Let’s be inspired to put others first, even before our own interests, as we witnessed in the story of the Brownlee brothers. Also, let’s remember Jesus is there for us. He is our older brother, ready to intervene and help us when we need it most.
